28 Jul 2020 Players Celebrated, Honored, Awarded (Videos)
It;s been a year unlike any other and our young Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association members have been through many challenges from the youngest to our graduating seniors, whose high school seasons were cut short due to Covid-19. But through it all, our players, parents, staff and volunteers persevered and social distanced and managed to have a junior golf season. The year culminated with the year-end awards, which were given out at Angel Park in July.
Special videos were created to honor the sports persons of the year, players of the year and winners of the Jim Colbert SNJGA Scholarships, including Ben Sawaia and Lauryn Lescenski, who each received special $5000 scholarships as a surprise.

“What a year, for sure, but we are so proud of all of the kids for rolling with all of the changes, the stops and starts, and putting their heads down and playing the game of golf safely and at high levels,” said SNJGA president Tim Quinn. “And special recognition goes to our seniors who had their final year in school changed in so many ways. This was a way we can honor and remember them, and wish them well as they start their new chapters.”
Volunteer of the Year was Ronnie Tallent and the Community Persons of the Year which wrtr Jason Cheney from Southern Highlands and Andy Elliott from Cascata. Look for an additional story about our Persons of the Year and photos coming soon.
