Another Middle School golf season is in the books and the Wranglers took home the title over the SNJGA Rebels and Faith Lutheran in the event at Legacy Golf Club. The individual City Champions were girls Macy Badger (5/6 grades) and Emma Cooper (7/8), and boys Rock Kuperman (5/6) and Yujin Chang (7/8).
“There is a lot to be excited about with Middle School golf and the future is looking good,” said Clay Carpenter, SNJGA Rebels coach. “We had 11 schools participate this year and we are looking to increase next year. The Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association has been so helpful to our team and the entire league. They support us and want us to grow.”
The other eight teams were Las Vegas Day School, The Meadows, Alexander Dawson, St. Viator, Pinecrest Academy, Cornerstone, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, and Rosemary Clarke Middle School.
Carpenter says there is a lot of talent playing currently, but there is a lot more talent in the younger grades and coming into the program. The program serves as a feeder to some of the high school programs and many SNJGA members participate.
“Our overall goal is to grow the game of golf and we are doing that, but always looking to improve,” Carpenter said. “That is our whole mission is to get more kids golfing and for them to catch the golf bug.”
The director of the Middle School Golf is Revere teaching professional Josh Mattox, also the coach of the Wranglers. He is assisted by Carpenter and Cyrus Jannsen from Faith Lutheran.
Thank you to the courses and staff for hosting the events, especially those who donated the green fees!
