Lauren Wong is one of those young people who makes you do a double take when you learn about her accomplishments. The SNJGA alumna already has an impressive bio and now heads to Harvard to add more layers to her terrific story. –By Brian Hurlburt, www.lasvegasgolfinsider.com

“As I head off to college, one of my goals would be to make the most of all the incredible opportunities that Harvard has to offer,” Wong said. “I feel very fortunate to be among those admitted to the Harvard Class of 2027 and I look forward to this next chapter.”

Harvard acceptance is the reward of hard work and dedication. And usually some extracurricular interests and activities. Wong has all of that.

She is a graduate at West Career and Technical Academy in Las Vegas, Nevada where she earned a 5.950 weighted GPA, 4.0 unweighted, and was Salutatorian of her class. She is the Founder of Nevada Girls In STEM, a nonprofit that empowers young women and underserved youth through free STEM workshops and events. Lauren also represented 40,000 youth in the Nevada Youth Legislature, as a Youth Legislator representing Senate District 8. Lauren has testified on behalf of bills that have become state law, including education funding addressing learning gaps following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wong is also an avid golfer and was named a 2022 AJGA Rolex Scholastic Jr. All-American and she most recently won the Nevada State Junior Amateur 15-18 girls division. She also won the 2022 Las Vegas City Junior Amateur and was the 4-time captain of the Palo Verde girls golf team, where she competed and won the 2022-23 Mountain Region Division I championship.

Most notably, she is one of 5 golfers in the nation named as the recipient of the LPGA Foundation andChevron “Changing the Face Of Golf” $10,000 Scholarship and award. She is also an AJGA Champion, having won the 2022 AJGA GreatLIFE Junior Challenge in South Dakota, and has finished in the Top 10 of three AJGA tournaments.

The win in the AJGA event was a memory that will last a lifetime.

“I will always remember the excitement and pride I felt after I won the AJGA GreatLife Jr. Challenge in the summer of 2022 in South Dakota,” Wong said. “I worked very hard leading up to it with my coach, Craig Barlow, and it was so rewarding to see my efforts pay off  in a tournament that had many elite players in the field.”

Off the course, Wong held numerous leadership positions at her high school, including President of the Science Bowl Club and Secretary of the Robotics Club and was the recipient of the 2023 Coca-Cola $20,000 Scholarship and is among only 150 Coca-Cola Scholars selected out of 90,000+ applicants nationwide. She is the national AspireIT Impact Award recipient and has won three Scholastic Art and Writing awards.

Wong plans to try out for the Harvard golf team. Our money is on Wong leading Harvard on and off the course for years to come.
