Each year, the Boys Junior Americas Cup is one of the most prestigious events on the junior golf calendar. In 2026, the Nevada team finished fourth behind powerhouses Arizona, Southern California and Mexico on the La Costa Resort South Course in Carlsbad, Calif. Like a collegiate event, the Junior America’s Cup featured 18 teams of four boys representing their state, province, or country. The Nevada team was made up of two players from Southern Nevada and two from Northern Nevada.

Stryker Leick (South) finished fourth at 6-under par, while Colby Hutton (South) finished T9 at 1-under par. Luke Swanson (North) finished T19 at 2-over par and Zachary Peterson was T26 at 4-over par.

“We had kids who were great on and off the golf course, and that is what I will remember most about the experience,” said John Sunstrum, co-captain and representing the Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association. Daniel Timmons was the captain from the North. “Our camaraderie was huge for us, and that really helped the team stick together after a slow start. They never quit, never batted an eye, and I think because they got along so well, that helped their confidence going up against some very good teams and very good players. Again, we had a great group of kids and the parents, who walked the course and watched them play each day, should be commended for raising such fine young men.”

The 2026 competition marked the 54th anniversary of the Junior America’s Cup Championship and the fourth time it has been hosted by the Oregon Golf Association (OGA). The previous time the event was hosted by the SDJGA was in 2007, at Morgan Run Resort & GC in Rancho Santa Fe (now called La Valle Coastal Club). Oregon and Washington were co-champions that year. JAC alumni from the 2007 championship include Max Homa.

Past Junior America’s Cup participants who have gone on to successful professional careers include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Fred Couples, Corey Pavin, Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Cantlay, Rickie Fowler, Ryan Moore, Max Homa, Kyle Stanley, and Tony Finau.

“What a first-class event for the kids to be a part of,” Sunstrum said. “There were college coaches everywhere, and this is an experience the kids and families will remember for their entire lives.” Check out full Boys Junior Americas Cup scores here
