It is now an annual tradittion, the Jay Don Blake Border War between the Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association and the Utah Junior Golf Association. In 2026, Team Southern Nevada took back the title with a 342.5-305.5 victory.
“Every player bought into the team concept from the moment we put them together and that was instrumental is our victory,” said Grant McKay, team captain and an SNJGA alum. “An example is one of our young players, Phillip Herrera beat one of their top guys, and he told me late in his round, ‘Coach, I know we need the points, so I am going to win the last four holes.’ That was the type of mindset throughout the group.
“Golf is an individual sport most of the time, and these players have a short window to play as a team, whether it is this event or their high school and hopefully college team. An event like this allows them to cultivate relationships that they will have for a lifetime. It is very rewarding for myself and the SNJGA to help facillitate an event like this and watch them grow as golfers and people. We also appreciate Team Utah for hosting the event and we look forward to next year.”
