In 2020, Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association players now have the opportunity to earn prestigious and valuable AJGA stars, which help towards “performance-based Entry” for the highest-level junior tournaments in the United States. College coaches flock to AJGA tournaments to scout talent and the stars allow local juniors a better chance to play their way into the sought-after tournaments.
“This is a huge stepping stone for us and could lead to many more events next season if we have good showings in the four events on the Performance-Based Entry map this season,” says SNJGA alum and board member Billy Harvey. “The Palm Valley Junior Amateur this past February was the first and there are three additional tournaments with stars on the line this summer. Our boys and girls now won’t have to pay thousands of dollars chasing stars around the region and country so their child can gain entry into a few AJGA events. Now, they’ll be able to play locally to earn the stars required to play AJGA events, where most every competitive player can receive the most exposure and play in front of college coaches galore.”
