“The first thing that comes to mind is the overall accomplishment because this is one of my greatest achievements so far to commit to a program that is growing and to join a team on an upward trajectory,” Pham said. “I’m very grateful to commit to Kansas and to have the opportunity to play college golf at such an elite institution. Hard work pays off. This shows that if you really want something and you work for it, then you can make it happen. That is what happened for me.”

While Pham is ready and excited, Kansas Head Coach Lindsay Kuhle shares that same excitement. She knows what kind of player and person she and Kansas are getting.

“Lauren is a Jayhawk through and through,” Kuhle said. “Her father and close family members attended KU and she has always had the dream of becoming a Jayhawk. When I watched Lauren play I was so impressed with her consistency and her putting. She loves golf and loves to compete, is an extremely high achiever and very coachable, she has played in numerous national events this past summer, including a final 16 performance at the Girl’s Western Junior (5th in qualifying stroke play portion).

“Lauren will fit right in with our program and culture we are building- of ladies who have the desire to turn pro and a passion for the game of golf along with the drive for high level academics,” Kuhle said. “Lauren is hard working and passionate about everything she does and I believe will be a wonderful leader for us.”

Pham has been playing in the Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association since she was 10. The lessons learned and experience gained has–and will–serve her well.

“The SNJGA has really allowed me to grow and become a better player,” Pham said. “Being able to play local events has really helped me to hone in my skills and get better. The SNJGA really helped me get the opportunities that I have been fortunate to get.”

Pham’s family ties to Kansas made the commitment all the more special for everyone involved.

“Ever since I was little, I knew about Kansas, so we’ve kind of had it in the back of our minds,” Pham said. “Getting an offer from Coach Kuhle and being able to play there is a dream come true. I look forward to being a part of the culture and trying to get involved in different clubs because I want to meet new people and just enjoy the college experience.”

Pham continues to work on her game with Craig Barlow, the High-Performance Golf Institute at Reflection Bay director of instruction and a former PGA Tour player. Pham understands the work is just beginning.

“I am continuing to work hard and prepare for college golf because it’s definitely a level up from what I’m used to,” Pham said. “I am trying to get better every day. I have a bunch of events in the summer coming up, so just getting ready for those and seeing how it goes before I start my first semester at college.
