Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association President Tim Quinn had something up his sleeve during the 2026 Awards Dinner at Reflection Bay Golf Club at Lake Las Vegas. On behalf of the SNJGA board and Vincent and Pamela Immordino, Quinn presented Rivers Common and Luke Cheplak with the Immordino scholarships, which had not previously been announced.

The news was thrilling and relieving for Common and Cheplak, and the delight shone through with the smiles on their faces.

“After receiving the Vincent and Pamela Immordino Scholarship, the first word that comes to my mind is blessed,” Commons said. She will live her dream to play college golf after a great career Palo Verde High School. “I understand that not a lot of junior golfers get the opportunity to receive any sort of scholarship. The fact that I was able to receive this just reminded me how blessed I am. Playing in the SNJGA has taught me a lot. It’s taught me how to be a good competitor. It’s also taught me good perseverance and also how to fail and get back up again. And lastly, I know it’s truly prepared me for the next four years at Southeastern University.”

Cheplak, a Doral Red Rock graduate in 2026, will play golf at St. Martins University.

“I was disappointed at first when I didn’t get a scholarship, but then I got the call and was so appreciative,” Cheplak said. “Southern Nevada Junior Golf has been amazing. I’ve been involved for a long time, and I’ve really progressed. In the early days, I wasn’t playing very well, but slowly I improved. You also meet great people along the way, which is almost better than the tournaments. I really appreciate the community it has built for me.”

Cheplak had several highlights with the SNJGA, but one travel team moment stood out.

“Over the last couple of years, I started recording top-three finishes, including a couple of second-place finishes. Then I played in the Junior Americas Cup last year in Portland. That was amazing and probably the highlight of my junior golf career. Without the SNJGA, I never would have had the opportunity to qualify for that tournament. It also helped me achieve my dream of playing college golf. It’s been great.”
