Advice from Tiger Woods about How to Succeed in a Junior Golf Tournament

If you’re going to listen to anyone about how to have a child succeed in a junior golf tournament, it might as well be arguably the best golfer in history.

Yes, that would be one Tiger Woods, and he has terrific advice we can all learn from, especially young golfers who may be looking to succeed in a Southern Nevada junior golf tournament. Now that his son, Charlie, is playing high-level junior golf, Woods shared with Golf Digest recently what his best piece of advice was. It happened to be about moving on from a previous poor shot.

“I said, ‘Son, I don’t care how mad you get. Your head could blow off for all I care, just as long as you are 100 percent committed to the next shot,’” Woods said in the interview. “’That’s all that matters. That next shot should be the most important shot in your life. It should be more important than breathing. Once you understand that concept, then I think you’ll get better.’”

The mental part of golf is in play at any level, but especially for young junior golfers looking for success and maybe not having as much experience. One bad shot won’t make for a horrible round, but letting one poor shot impact your next shot and the one after that and so on, could lead to a horrible result.

In other interviews, Woods has also advised junior golfers to have fun on the course but always compete while doing so. Playing golf should be enjoyable and if a junior is stressing out throughout a round, success most likely will be limited.

Also, even before getting to a tournament is when having success is really started. Woods’ favorite saying is, “you have to dig it out of the dirt” to be successful. This means to put in the time on the practice tee and short game areas. There is no replacement for preparation and no shortcut.

For junior golfers in Las Vegas looking to have success in tournaments, local golf professionals not only offer swing instruction but they can also advise on course management and other mental focus. https://southernnevadajuniorgolf.com
