Since the early 1970’s, the leadership and volunteers of the Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association have been helping to positively shape the lives of Southern Nevada youngsters both on and off the course, no matter their economic or socio backgrounds.
Thousands of kids have learned the game of golf and the life skills and character traits it instills. Our kids have flourished in all areas of life.
Our members have won Nevada state high school championships and national junior tournaments while our alumni have earned valuable college scholarships, won collegiate tournaments, and also played and won on the PGA and LPGA tours.
More importantly, many others have used their golf-based knowledge and experiences to thrive scholastically and make a meaningful difference in society through important careers in many sectors including education, philanthropy, the medical field, law enforcement and other pursuits. As with any endeavor, the story of one can captures the essence of the many.
Such is the case with the SNJGA as recently, and in conjunction with the Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame, a four-year, $20,000 scholarship was awarded to Grace Kang, a longtime member of the SNJGA and partner programs. Kang, who will use the scholarship to attend college in the future, was a well-rounded student involved in the Future Business Leaders of America, Key Club, Las Vegas Youth Orchestra, and other extracurricular activities but golf was always a main passion. The junior golf scholarship is a major reason she can afford college because her father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer when she was a senior in high school and couldn’t work. Sharing a philosophy learned via junior golf, Kang says her “true aspiration is to ensure my life makes a difference in other people’s lives.”
We hope to collaborate with you to continue to build the SNJGA so we can consistently and perpetually grow the game of golf while nurturing young minds, such as Kang’s, and lend a hand to them on their journey to ultimate success. Some of our programs include:
– First on Course developmental program for all kids
– Youth on Course play program offering golf for as little as $5 per round
– Southern Nevada Junior Golf Tour competitive schedule of tournaments
– Scholarship program, which has awarded more than $400,000 in assistance
– Southern Nevada College Prep Tour
– Partner programs: PGA Jr. League Golf; Drive, Chip and Putt; Golf in Schools
